<p><a href="https://www.britannica.com/place/Rome" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rome</a> is glamorous, dramatic and endlessly fascinating – it&#8217;s a city that feels like it was just made for the movies. From ancient landmarks that have stood for millennia to romantic cobblestone streets and charming piazzas, it’s no wonder that countless filmmakers have chosen the Eternal City as their backdrop.</p>
<p>For travelers, these films do more than entertain. They often spark dreams of sipping espresso on a sunlit piazza, <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/tour/skip-the-line-vatican-museums-private-tour" target="_blank" rel="noopener">exploring the Vatican’s treasures</a> or wandering past the <a href="https://colosseo.it/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Colosseum</a> at dusk. If you’ve ever found yourself inspired to book a trip after seeing Rome on screen, you’re not alone. When you’re ready to plan your own “movie moment,” start by browsing the beautiful Rome vacation rentals at <a href="https://www.vacationperfect.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vacation Perfect</a>.</p>
<h2><strong>Best Movies Set in Rome</strong></h2>
<p>Whether you love sweeping historical epics, stylish romances or modern thrillers, these films capture the many sides of Rome.</p>
<h3><a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046250/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Roman Holiday (1953)</strong></a></h3>
<p>Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck star in this timeless romantic comedy, filmed on location throughout Rome. From the Spanish Steps to the Colosseum, the movie’s iconic scenes still draw visitors retracing their steps today. <em>Roman Holiday</em> earned Hepburn an Academy Award and remains one of the most beloved films ever set in the city.</p>
<h3><a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052618/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Ben-Hur (1959)</strong></a></h3>
<p>This legendary epic will transport you to ancient Rome, with Charlton Heston in the role of Judah Ben-Hur. The film is famous for its breathtaking chariot race – still one of cinema’s greatest action sequences. Winner of eleven Academy Awards, <em>Ben-Hur</em> firmly secured Rome’s place in Hollywood history.</p>
<h3><a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117060/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Mission: Impossible III (2006)</strong></a></h3>
<p>For high-octane thrills, Tom Cruise brings the action to Rome in <em>Mission: Impossible III</em>. Key sequences unfold against the backdrop of the Tiber and inside Vatican City, adding a dose of adrenaline to the city’s cinematic legacy.</p>
<h3><a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808151/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Angels &amp; Demons (2009)</strong></a></h3>
<p>Based on Dan Brown’s bestselling novel, this fast-paced thriller starring Tom Hanks is a whirlwind journey through Rome. From St. Peter’s Basilica to Piazza Navona, <em>Angels &amp; Demons</em> showcases the city’s landmarks in dramatic fashion.</p>
<h3><a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0879870/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Eat Pray Love (2010)</strong></a></h3>
<p>Julia Roberts stars as Elizabeth Gilbert in this autobiographical drama about finding balance and joy in life. Rome is the “Eat” portion of the journey, where indulgence is celebrated, from creamy gelato to steaming plates of pasta. Watching it will make you hungry to experience <em>la dolce vita</em> firsthand.</p>
<h3><a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2358891/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>The Great Beauty (2013)</strong></a></h3>
<p>Winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for director Paolo Sorrentino, <em>The Great Beauty</em> (<em>La grande bellezza</em>) is a visually stunning exploration of modern Rome. Following writer Jep Gambardella through glittering parties and quiet hidden corners, the film captures the Eternal City’s dazzling contrasts and the darker side of its allure.</p>
<h2><strong>Step Into the Scene</strong></h2>
<p>These films are just a glimpse of how Rome has inspired storytellers for generations. Whether you’re drawn by romance, history or adventure, the Eternal City offers a cinematic backdrop like no other.</p>

<p>If you’ve ever stood captivated by the drama of a Caravaggio painting, you won’t want to miss <a href="https://caravaggio2025.barberinicorsini.org/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong><em>Caravaggio 2025 </em></strong></a>in Rome this year. This landmark exhibition at the magnificent Palazzo Barberini, on view through July 6, 2025, brings together a remarkable collection of the artist’s works—including rare paintings from private collections and celebrated international museums—united in the city where Caravaggio’s dramatic style was born.</p>
<p>Among the many highlights is <em>Portrait of Maffeo Barberini</em>, exhibited alongside other works linked to the powerful Barberini family, offering new insight into the artist’s early Roman years. Visitors will also be able to see <em>Ecce Homo</em>, returning to Italy for the first time in centuries on loan from the Prado Museum in Madrid. For those moved by Caravaggio’s intense light and shadow, this is a rare chance to experience his genius on an unprecedented scale.</p>
<p><iframe title="Caravaggio masterpieces return to Rome after centuries for landmark exhibition" width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5yqKhnhuvYc?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<h3><strong>Planning for Caravaggio 2025</strong></h3>
<p>If you&#8217;re considering a trip to Rome for this special exhibition, it’s essential to plan ahead. Tickets are timed and in high demand, especially on weekends. <a href="https://caravaggio2025.barberinicorsini.org/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Booking in advance</a> is highly recommended to secure your preferred dates.</p>

<p>It would take many lifetimes to see all the traces of history in Rome: by the time you finished, even more would have been written. And while you can visit the greatest treasures of the Eternal City in its great museums or its most iconic monuments, there are subtle nods to centuries of civilization on every corner. One such example of history hiding in plain sight are Rome’s “Talking Statues,” which dot the historic center and tell a story of Renaissance life in the capital. Whether this is your first visit or you’re a Rome regular, finding these chatty figures will give you a whole new appreciation for the city.</p>
<h2>What are the Talking Statues?</h2>
<p>Contrary to what the name might suggest, these six sculptures aren’t equipped with voice boxes, and they won’t yell at you for not wearing a scarf (leave it to Roman grandmothers to do that). Instead, the <em>statue parlanti </em>are six figures that were installed around Rome during the Renaissance that became sites where local people could anonymously express political discontent by writing on their surfaces. The messages could be as simple as disagreeing with current policy at the time or they could be much more elaborate, coded messages that warring factions of the city or the Vatican were sending each other under cover of darkness. Think of them as the message boards of the day for 14th and 15th century Romans, or maybe even the first true form of social media.</p>
<div id="attachment_64367" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-64367" class="size-full wp-image-64367" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-perfect-pasquino-talking-statues.jpg" alt="" width="1680" height="1120" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-perfect-pasquino-talking-statues.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-perfect-pasquino-talking-statues-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-perfect-pasquino-talking-statues-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-perfect-pasquino-talking-statues-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-perfect-pasquino-talking-statues-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-perfect-pasquino-talking-statues-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-64367" class="wp-caption-text">The Pasquino statue in Piazza di Pasquino.</p></div>
<p>Until the 16th century, these four statues and two foundations that became known as the <em>Congresso degli arguti, </em>or the Congress of the Witty, were important points of political and social reference for a city undergoing radical change. The Vatican was becoming the seat of enormous power and Rome, which had been all but abandoned after the fall of the Roman Empire, was re-emerging from the Dark Ages. Even today, the talking statues maintain their role as a place where citizens can leave their opinions (mostly in flyer form) and make their voices heard. The Talking Statues continue to speak for generations of Italians and are well worth listening to for a slice of everyday Rome.</p>

<h2>Where can you find the Talking Statues?</h2>
<p>You don’t need to make a special trip to find the Talking Statues of Rome: indeed, most of them are on the streets in some of the most well trod sections of the city and a few are right underneath your nose. Make it into an easy walking tour or just keep your eye out for them while you shop or are out sightseeing!</p>

<h3>Pasquino</h3>
<p>Perhaps the most famous of the Talking Statues is <strong>Pasquino, </strong>found in the Piazza that shares its name just a short walk from Piazza Navona. In residence since 1501, Pasquino has held the punchline for a great many of the jokes or comments left on all the statues, so much so that the comments themselves are known as “pasquinades”. If you’re lucky enough to stay right on the Piazza, which you can do at the <a href="https://www.vacationperfect.com/vrp/unit/pasquino" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Pasquino apartment</strong></a>, you might just catch modern activists tacking their latest pasquinades onto the statue in the wee hours, keeping a beloved Roman tradition alive.</p>

(<a href="https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Abate_luigi_1.JPG" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<h3>Abate Luigi</h3>
<p>Not far from the <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/romes-largo-di-torre-argentina-cats-sunbathe-amidst-roman-history.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Area Sacra Torre Argentina</a>, where Caesar was killed and cats now roam in a state of the art sanctuary, the<strong> Abate Luigi </strong>statue is the only one that tells us something about the subject. The inscription reads, “I was a citizen of ancient Rome, now everyone calls me abbot Luigi, with Pasquino and Marforio I gained fame for urban satire. I suffered offenses, disgraces and got buried, but here I found a new, safe life.”</p>
<div id="attachment_64359" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-64359" class="size-full wp-image-64359" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-Marforio-Palazzo-Nuovo-Musei-Capitolini-Rome.jpg" alt="talking statues Rome Italy" width="1680" height="1093" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-Marforio-Palazzo-Nuovo-Musei-Capitolini-Rome.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-Marforio-Palazzo-Nuovo-Musei-Capitolini-Rome-300x195.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-Marforio-Palazzo-Nuovo-Musei-Capitolini-Rome-1024x666.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-Marforio-Palazzo-Nuovo-Musei-Capitolini-Rome-768x500.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-Marforio-Palazzo-Nuovo-Musei-Capitolini-Rome-1536x999.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-64359" class="wp-caption-text">The Marforio statue at the Musei Capitolini (<a href="https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Marforio_-_Palazzo_Nuovo_-_Musei_Capitolini_-_Rome_2016_(2).jpg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<h3>Marforio</h3>
<p>The bearded, half reclining <strong>Marforio </strong>statue is the only one you’ll have to make a beeline for, as it’s found up the Capitoline hill in the Piazza del Campidoglio. The ancient Roman statue is one of the most “talkative” of the group, and very often throughout history jokes would be written here and answered on other statues.</p>
<div id="attachment_64360" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-64360" class="size-full wp-image-64360" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-Madama-Lucrezia.jpg" alt="" width="1680" height="1260" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-Madama-Lucrezia.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-Madama-Lucrezia-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-Madama-Lucrezia-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-Madama-Lucrezia-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-Madama-Lucrezia-1536x1152.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-64360" class="wp-caption-text">Rome&#8217;s Madama Lucrezia talking statue. (<a href="https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Madama_Lucrezia_a_piazza_san_marco.JPG" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<h3>Madama Lucrezia</h3>
<p>A 3-meter high colossal Roman bust seated on a plinth would be hard to miss anywhere, but the statue of <strong>Madama Lucrezia</strong> is in one of the most famous spots in all Rome, so you’d be forgiven if you hadn’t noticed. Situated in a piazza between the iconic Piazza Venezia and the Basilica di San Marco, the only female depiction in the group is thought to represent the Egyptian goddess Isis and was named for Lucrezia d’Alagno, the lover of the King of Naples, who moved to Rome after his death in 1458.</p>
<div id="attachment_64362" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-64362" class="size-full wp-image-64362" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-talking-statues-Fontana-del-Facchino.jpg" alt="" width="1680" height="2318" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-talking-statues-Fontana-del-Facchino.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-talking-statues-Fontana-del-Facchino-217x300.jpg 217w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-talking-statues-Fontana-del-Facchino-742x1024.jpg 742w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-talking-statues-Fontana-del-Facchino-768x1060.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-talking-statues-Fontana-del-Facchino-1113x1536.jpg 1113w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-talking-statues-Fontana-del-Facchino-1484x2048.jpg 1484w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-64362" class="wp-caption-text">The Fontana del Facchino talking statue. (<a href="https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fontana_del_Facchino.jpg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<h3>Fontana del Facchino</h3>
<p>Via del Corso is one of Rome’s most important arteries, for a number of reasons: it’s a commercial hub that runs through the historic center, and its the location of some of the city’s most vital political buildings. With all that action you might miss the humble <strong>Fontana del Facchino</strong> tucked away on via Lata, which depicts a water bearer and his barrel. But this fountain was the center of action in Renaissance Rome, and some say it was even sculpted by Michelangelo.</p>
<div id="attachment_64363" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-64363" class="size-full wp-image-64363" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-Fontana-del-Babbuino.jpg" alt="" width="1680" height="1263" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-Fontana-del-Babbuino.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-Fontana-del-Babbuino-300x226.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-Fontana-del-Babbuino-1024x770.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-Fontana-del-Babbuino-768x577.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/italy-rome-Fontana-del-Babbuino-1536x1155.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-64363" class="wp-caption-text">The Fontana del Babbuino in Rome. (<a href="https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fontana_del_Babbuino_(Rome).jpg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<h3>Fontana del Babuino</h3>
<p>If you’re near the Spanish Steps, coming from the Villa Borghese, or finishing a tasty meal at the <a href="https://www.canovatadolini.com/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Canova Tadolini</a>, you’ll be right near the <strong>Fontana del Babuino, </strong>which sits on the corner of Via del Babuino and Via del Greci. Built in approximately 1576 by a wealthy merchant who intended for it to be used by the public, the statue on the fountain was considered so ugly by Romans that they named in babuino, or “baboon,” and like all terrible nicknames, it stuck. So much so that the Via del Babuino, one of Rome’s most well known shopping streets, is named for it.</p>

<p>If you’re planning a trip to Rome next year, chances are high that you’ve seen and heard a lot of chatter about the <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/rome-jubilee-2025-accommodation.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2025 Jubilee</a>. This extraordinary event (actually considered &#8220;ordinary,&#8221; but we’ll get to that) draws millions of people to Rome and involves months of preparation at sites all over the city. For travelers planning a trip around the Jubilee, there’s a rush of excitement at being able to participate in such an important event. However, if you’re planning a trip to Rome that doesn’t involve <a href="https://www.iubilaeum2025.va/en.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jubilee celebrations</a>, you might find yourself making some last minute adjustments or arriving to find longer than usual lines for the places you’ve earmarked to visit. But with the right planning and a bit of background, your 2025 Roman holiday will be a truly unique experience.</p>

<h3>What is the Jubilee?</h3>
<p>Although we use the word to talk about different kinds of celebrations, the word <i>jubilee </i>actually comes from the Old Testament and was meant to describe a special year where sins, debts and other afflictions are pardoned. In the book of Leviticus, a jubilee occurred every 50 years, but in the 12th century Pope Boniface VIII decreed that it would occur every 25 years. As the centuries progressed, these Jubilee celebrations were known as “ordinary” (falling in the set period of years) or “extraordinary” if a Jubilee year was proclaimed for a particular motive. In 1933, for example, an extraordinary Jubilee was proclaimed to celebrate the 1,900th anniversary of the resurrection of Christ.</p>
<p>The most important feature of the Jubilee ritual is the opening and the final walling up of the &#8220;holy door&#8221; in each of the four great basilicas which the pilgrims are required to visit in Rome. These are St. Peter’s Basilica, Santa Maria Maggiore, San Giovanni in Laterano and San Paolo Fuori le Mura. The doors are opened by the Pope at the beginning of the Jubilee celebrations, which will be on December 24th, 2024, and then closed by him on January 6th, 2026. All over the world, Catholic churches dedicate a door for the Jubilee year to accommodate parishioners who are unable to make it to Rome. However, the auspiciousness of passing through one of the four holy doors is so powerful that up to 30 million pilgrims will make their way to Rome during the Jubilee year to complete this rite. Along the way, they’ll visit hundreds of sites around the city that are significant to the Catholic Church.</p>

<h3>How Will it Affect Rome?</h3>
<p>With so many people coming to Rome and circulating in such specific areas around the center of the city, there have been major preparations underway all year to get the city ready to host. And although work technically began in 2021, there are still many construction projects underway that will likely continue into the first few months of the Jubilee year. For instance, the tram lines that connect the Vatican City with other parts of Rome are in the midst of a major upgrade, and many of the most important sights around the area, including Castel Sant’Angelo and Piazza del Risorgimento, have had major detours. All over the city, the most important monuments are being cleaned and restored, meaning that they may be covered in layers of scaffolding until complete.</p>
<p>While the city has promised to be ready for the opening of the Jubilee doors on December 24th, it&#8217;s a pretty massive job with inevitable delays. Add to this the entirely unrelated construction work underway in Piazza Venezia, where a new metro line is being dug as part of a project that is expected to last at least 15 years, and you might think that Rome is in a “work in progress” phase. But they don’t call it the Eternal City for nothing, and there is still plenty to see, do and experience during your holiday.</p>
<div id="attachment_64306" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-64306" class="size-full wp-image-64306" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/rome-vatican-museums-tamal-mukhopadhyay-D6lp17Ocg_A-unsplash.jpg" alt="Vatican Museums Jubilee" width="1680" height="1120" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/rome-vatican-museums-tamal-mukhopadhyay-D6lp17Ocg_A-unsplash.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/rome-vatican-museums-tamal-mukhopadhyay-D6lp17Ocg_A-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/rome-vatican-museums-tamal-mukhopadhyay-D6lp17Ocg_A-unsplash-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/rome-vatican-museums-tamal-mukhopadhyay-D6lp17Ocg_A-unsplash-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/rome-vatican-museums-tamal-mukhopadhyay-D6lp17Ocg_A-unsplash-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/rome-vatican-museums-tamal-mukhopadhyay-D6lp17Ocg_A-unsplash-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-64306" class="wp-caption-text">Book tickets for the Vatican Museums well in advance. (<a href="https://unsplash.com/photos/people-on-the-stairs-D6lp17Ocg_A" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<h3>Getting the Most Out of the City</h3>
<p>First, get a good pair of walking shoes. Plan to stay in central Rome where you can rely on your feet to get around, as public transport is likely to be crowded and taxis might be fewer and farther between than normal. The <em>Centro Storico</em> will be just as bustling as ever and you’ll even find that iconic sights like the Trevi Fountain (currently undergoing a cleanup) will shine even brighter than usual, so there will be plenty to see on walks around town.</p>
<p>Second, plan your visit well &#8211; and well in advance. If your heart is set on visiting major attractions like the <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/tour/colosseum-and-ancient-rome-private-tour" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Colosseum</a>, the <a href="https://www.pantheonroma.com/">Pantheon</a> and the <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/tour/galleria-borghese-private-tour" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Villa Borghese</a>, get your tours and tickets sorted out as early as possible. Waiting until you’re in town to try to squeeze in a tour may prove to be a difficult task, and you don’t want to be disappointed. However, if you want to visit the <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/tour/skip-the-line-vatican-museums-private-tour" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vatican Museums</a>, keep in mind that the lines and crowds will be much larger than usual, so plan accordingly. If you might previously have needed a half day to visit, dedicate a day instead.</p>
<p>Third, remember that you’re visiting one of the greatest cities in the world at one of the most remarkable times. The Jubilee only occurs four times a century, and its a pretty incredible thing to witness. You’ll see people from all over the world coming for a ritual experience that dates back centuries. The minor inconveniences will hardly matter when you think back at this ordinary (and extraordinary!) event that you’ll take part in, from your own corner of Rome.</p>

(<a href="https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<p>When we first saw the three <a href="https://www.vacationperfect.com/vrp/unit/sisto-fiume" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Sisto Fiume</strong></a> and <a href="https://www.vacationperfect.com/vrp/unit/sisto-cascata" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Sisto Cascata</strong></a> apartments (yes we personally visit each and every one of our Italy Perfect vacation rentals!), we knew they were a very special find. The location is tucked away in a quiet spot near the pedestrian only <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/rome-bridges.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ponte Sisto bridge</a> over to lively <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/rome-trastevere-guide.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Trastevere</a> and the Campo de&#8217; Fiori and Piazza Navona neighborhood. It&#8217;s full of charm and tremendous history. We call <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/the-sonata-a-hidden-haven-in-rome.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">this area a hidden haven in Rome</a>, because it is incredibly central and yet so quiet.</p>
<div id="attachment_63805" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-63805" class="size-full wp-image-63805" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/italy-perfect-rome-torre-argentina.jpg" alt="" width="1680" height="1151" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/italy-perfect-rome-torre-argentina.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/italy-perfect-rome-torre-argentina-300x206.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/italy-perfect-rome-torre-argentina-1024x702.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/italy-perfect-rome-torre-argentina-768x526.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/italy-perfect-rome-torre-argentina-1536x1052.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-63805" class="wp-caption-text">Gaze down over the Roman ruins at the Largo di Torre Argentina nearby.</p></div>
<p>Even better, each one of these vacation rentals has been beautifully remodeled and decorated with a modern and elegant design. <a href="https://www.vacationperfect.com/vrp/unit/sisto-fiume" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Sisto Fiume</strong></a> is a spacious 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom apartment that welcome up to 6 guests. <a href="https://www.vacationperfect.com/vrp/unit/sisto-cascata" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Sisto Cascata</strong></a> is a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom rental that sleeps 5 guests. Even better, since they&#8217;re all located in the same building, they&#8217;re ideal for larger groups. Traveling to Rome with your family? Planning a girlfriend getaway and need more space? <p>Rome certainly has enough historic sites, museums and charm to keep you endlessly captivated. But one of the reasons we love returning time and again is how easy Rome&#8217;s central location and well-connected train system make it to hop around the Italian countryside. If you&#8217;ve explored Florence, tilted your head at the leaning tower in Pisa and are ready to discover some different destinations, we&#8217;re sharing some of our favorite unique day trips from Rome. Head to the Lazio coastline to enjoy a day by Gaeta’s golden beaches, relax with stunning lake views, wander among the ruins of Hadrian’s Villa, step back in time at Pompeii or see the lesser-visited side of the popular Amalfi Coast on these day trips that are all just a short train ride from Rome.</p>
<div id="attachment_64154" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-64154" class="size-full wp-image-64154" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-perfect-day-trips-from-rome-gaeta.jpg" alt="Gaeta day trip" width="1680" height="1120" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-perfect-day-trips-from-rome-gaeta.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-perfect-day-trips-from-rome-gaeta-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-perfect-day-trips-from-rome-gaeta-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-perfect-day-trips-from-rome-gaeta-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-perfect-day-trips-from-rome-gaeta-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-perfect-day-trips-from-rome-gaeta-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-64154" class="wp-caption-text">Spend a day in beautiful Gaeta.</p></div>
<h2>Gaeta</h2>
<p>Looking for a day by the sea with a healthy dose of history and charm? Head to delightfully under the radar Gaeta, located south of Rome on the Lazio coastline. With frequent regional train departures every hour from Rome, the trip takes just an hour and a half to the Formia-Gaeta station. From there, it&#8217;s only a quick taxi ride to Gaeta’s historic center. Once there, you&#8217;ll have time to enjoy the town&#8217;s pretty beaches and medieval architecture &#8211; all with gorgeous views of the Tyrrhenian Sea.</p>
<p>Spend time exploring Gaeta&#8217;s rich history, including the imposing Montagna Spaccata (Split Mountain), where legend has it the earth split during the crucifixion of Christ. Visit the ancient Sanctuary of the Holy Trinity perched on a cliff or stroll through the medieval streets to discover the <a href="https://www.italia.it/en/lazio/gaeta/castle-of-gaeta" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Angevin Aragonese Castle</a>. After sightseeing, relax on Serapo Beach, one of the most beautiful in the area, or head to a trattoria to enjoy a good seafood meal with sea views. A little city with a lot of history, Gaeta offers the perfect mix of history, relaxation and coastal charm, making it a fun day out from Rome.</p>
<div id="attachment_64155" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-64155" class="size-full wp-image-64155" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-hadrian-villa-tivoli.jpg" alt="Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli" width="1680" height="1112" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-hadrian-villa-tivoli.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-hadrian-villa-tivoli-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-hadrian-villa-tivoli-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-hadrian-villa-tivoli-768x508.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-hadrian-villa-tivoli-1536x1017.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-64155" class="wp-caption-text">Ancient Roman opulence at Hadrian&#8217;s Villa in Tivoli. <h2>Hadrian&#8217;s Villa in Tivoli</h2>
<p>While Rome is a treasure trove of ancient Roman history, there are archaeological sites outside the city center that are perfect for a day trip. Located just 40 minutes from the city, Tivoli is easily reached by train or bus from Rome. Once there, head to <a href="https://villae.cultura.gov.it/en/the-locations/villa-adriana/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Villa Adriana</a> to see the ruins of Emperor Hadrian&#8217;s sprawling countryside estate, an impressive complex that was once a symbol of imperial luxury. Wander through the expansive grounds, where you’ll see grand palaces, lush gardens and serene reflecting pools. The villa&#8217;s architectural marvels, like the Canopus with its elegant colonnades and statues, provide a fascinating look into ancient Roman innovation.</p>
<p>After exploring the site, take some time to relax in Tivoli or take the chance to visit the equally stunning Villa d&#8217;Este nearby. Find out more about the <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/the-magical-fountains-of-villa-deste-in-tivoli.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">magical fountains of Villa d’Este in Tivoli here</a>.</p>
<div id="attachment_64156" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-64156" class="size-full wp-image-64156" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-salerno-gianpaolo-antonucci-7Eoe8PnWY-c-unsplash.jpg" alt="day trip rome to Salerno" width="1680" height="1583" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-salerno-gianpaolo-antonucci-7Eoe8PnWY-c-unsplash.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-salerno-gianpaolo-antonucci-7Eoe8PnWY-c-unsplash-300x283.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-salerno-gianpaolo-antonucci-7Eoe8PnWY-c-unsplash-1024x965.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-salerno-gianpaolo-antonucci-7Eoe8PnWY-c-unsplash-768x724.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-salerno-gianpaolo-antonucci-7Eoe8PnWY-c-unsplash-1536x1447.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-64156" class="wp-caption-text">Salerno is only an hour and a half from Rome. (<a href="https://unsplash.com/photos/an-aerial-view-of-a-city-and-a-body-of-water-7Eoe8PnWY-c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<h2>Salerno</h2>
<p>For a taste of southern Italian charm on a day trip from Rome, head south to the city of Salerno. While there are many train connections, it&#8217;s well worth the additional cost for the high-speed Frecciarossa train, which will take you from the center of Rome to Salerno in just 1 hour and 35 minutes. Why Salerno instead of the more popular Sorrento or Positano? For one, we love this history and off-the-beaten-path vibe of Salerno. The train station is also very conveniently located right in center of the city, making it easy to get around on foot. Once there, stroll through Salerno’s medieval center, being sure to visit the 11th-century <a href="https://www.cattedraledisalerno.it/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Duomo</a> with its glimmering gold crypt of Saint Matthew. Afterward, take a walk along the <em>lungomare</em> (waterfront), where you&#8217;ll have views looking toward the Amalfi Coast in the distance.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;ve been dreaming of the Amalfi Coast, Salerno is also the gateway to the eastern side of this famous coastline. For a taste of the Amalfi Coast on a doable day trip from Rome, you can easily catch the <a href="https://www.cattedraledisalerno.it/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Travelmar</a> ferry only a few blocks from the Salerno train station. We recommend taking a ferry to nearby Vietri sul Mare, known for its handmade ceramics tradition. Spend time browsing in the local shops, where you’ll find one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces that make perfect souvenirs. Or, head to the charming fishing village of Cetara for a memorable seafood lunch in one of its many tempting restaurants, followed by a swim beneath the town&#8217;s historic watchtower.</p>
<div id="attachment_64157" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-64157" class="size-full wp-image-64157" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-pompeii-getty-images-nEFIjn-NK-0-unsplash.jpg" alt="Pompeii day trip from Rome" width="1680" height="1113" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-pompeii-getty-images-nEFIjn-NK-0-unsplash.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-pompeii-getty-images-nEFIjn-NK-0-unsplash-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-pompeii-getty-images-nEFIjn-NK-0-unsplash-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-pompeii-getty-images-nEFIjn-NK-0-unsplash-768x509.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-pompeii-getty-images-nEFIjn-NK-0-unsplash-1536x1018.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-64157" class="wp-caption-text">Explore the ancient city of Pompeii on a day trip from Rome. <h2>Pompeii</h2>
<p>If your Roman Empire is literally the Roman Empire, you won&#8217;t want to miss a day trip from Rome to the ancient ruins of Pompeii. Many of our guests don&#8217;t realize that it&#8217;s a very doable day trip from Rome. Easily accessible by train, this remarkably preserved city was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. It offers the unique experience of wandering through the streets of a Roman city where you can marvel at ancient villas, see frescoes, imagine the sounds of gladiators in the arena and see firsthand the haunting plaster casts of Pompeii&#8217;s last inhabitants. For a more immersive experience, consider <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/tour/pompeii-full-day-tour-from-rome" target="_blank" rel="noopener">booking a full-day guided tour that departs from Rome</a>, which offers expert insights into the history and daily life of this extraordinary site as well as a visit to the outstanding Naples Archaeological Museum.</p>
<p>If you want more tips on planning your visit, check out our <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/pompeii-day-rome.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">blog post on day trips to Pompeii from Rome</a>. Whether you explore on your own or take a guided tour, a day trip to Pompeii is a must for anyone deeply interested in ancient history.</p>
<div id="attachment_64158" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-64158" class="size-full wp-image-64158" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-Bracciano.jpg" alt="" width="1680" height="1260" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-Bracciano.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-Bracciano-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-Bracciano-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-Bracciano-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-Bracciano-1536x1152.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-64158" class="wp-caption-text">View from the Orsini-Odescalchi Castle over Lake Bracciano (<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/truusbobjantoo/2335632346" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<h2>Bracciano</h2>
<p>Head out into the countryside to Bracciano for a slice of the peaceful country life just outside Rome. Located by the crystal-clear waters of Lake Bracciano, this picturesque town is best known for the <a href="https://odescalchi.it/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Orsini-Odescalchi Castle</a>, a beautifully preserved medieval fortress with sweeping views over the lake and surrounding hills. The castle’s grand halls and ancient rooms are filled with historical artifacts, making it a fascinating destination for history lovers.</p>
<p>After exploring the castle, take a leisurely stroll along the lakefront, where you can relax by the water, enjoy a meal at a local trattoria or even take a boat ride across the lake. Bracciano’s tranquil atmosphere and rich history make it a perfect day out from Rome.</p>
<div id="attachment_64160" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-64160" class="size-full wp-image-64160" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-castel-gandolfo.jpg" alt="Castel Gandolfo" width="1680" height="1160" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-castel-gandolfo.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-castel-gandolfo-300x207.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-castel-gandolfo-1024x707.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-castel-gandolfo-768x530.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-day-trip-rome-to-castel-gandolfo-1536x1061.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-64160" class="wp-caption-text">Beautiful Lake Albano from Castel Gandolfo. (<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/21078769@N00/49370734057" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<h2>Castel Gandolfo</h2>
<p>A visit to Castel Gandolfo offers a peaceful escape to the scenic Alban Hills, where you can explore the stunning summer residence of the popes. Just a short train ride from the city, Castel Gandolfo is famous for its beautiful Papal Palace and lush gardens, which are now part of the <a href="https://www.museivaticani.va/content/museivaticani/en/organizza-visita/scegli-la-visita.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vatican Museums</a>. Wander through the immaculately kept grounds, taking in the scenic views of Lake Albano, and immerse yourself in centuries of history within the palace walls. You can book a guided tour to explore the rooms once used by the popes and stroll through the expansive gardens. Whether you&#8217;re drawn by the history of the Papal residence or the serene lakeside setting, a day spent in Castel Gandolfo promises a refreshing retreat just outside Rome.</p>
<div id="attachment_64159" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-64159" class="size-full wp-image-64159" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-rome-day-trip-to-orvieto-t-s-BrqGXDXs3y8-unsplash.jpg" alt="Orvieto day trip from Rome" width="1680" height="1260" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-rome-day-trip-to-orvieto-t-s-BrqGXDXs3y8-unsplash.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-rome-day-trip-to-orvieto-t-s-BrqGXDXs3y8-unsplash-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-rome-day-trip-to-orvieto-t-s-BrqGXDXs3y8-unsplash-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-rome-day-trip-to-orvieto-t-s-BrqGXDXs3y8-unsplash-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/italy-rome-day-trip-to-orvieto-t-s-BrqGXDXs3y8-unsplash-1536x1152.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-64159" class="wp-caption-text">Orvieto is a stunning day trip from Rome.</p></div>
<h2>Orvieto</h2>
<p style="text-align: left;">Orvieto is one of our absolute favorite day trips from Rome, and for good reason. Perched dramatically atop a volcanic tuff cliff, Orvieto offers that deliciously Italian combination of history, architecture and spectacular views. Even if you think you simply can&#8217;t see another church, you must visit Orvieto&#8217;s <a href="https://www.duomodiorvieto.it/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Duomo</a>, an iconic Gothic cathedral with intricate mosaics, sculptures and those eye-catching black and white stripes made of basalt and marble. Beyond the Duomo, you&#8217;ll want to spend time meandering Orvieto’s charming streets, visiting the underground caves and taking in those vistas of the surrounding Umbrian countryside.</p>

(<a href="https://unsplash.com/photos/people-walking-beside-dome-building-grlIoctRp1o" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<p>When thinking of Rome&#8217;s ancient history, the Colosseum often the first thing that comes to mind. Perhaps you&#8217;ve already toured Italy&#8217;s most famous ancient arena or visited the Forum or stood and gazed up at the impressive dome of the Pantheon. While these ancient Roman sights are a must, especially for first-time visitors, the Eternal City is full of fascinating places to delve deeper into Rome&#8217;s rich past. Even better, many of them are far less crowded! Here are some incredible places to explore Rome&#8217;s ancient history beyond the Colosseum.</p>
<div id="attachment_64086" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-64086" class="size-full wp-image-64086" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Italy-perfect-rome-Domus-Aurea.jpg" alt="" width="1680" height="1098" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Italy-perfect-rome-Domus-Aurea.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Italy-perfect-rome-Domus-Aurea-300x196.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Italy-perfect-rome-Domus-Aurea-1024x669.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Italy-perfect-rome-Domus-Aurea-768x502.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Italy-perfect-rome-Domus-Aurea-1536x1004.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-64086" class="wp-caption-text">Explore the ruins of Emperor Nero&#8217;s Golden House.</p></div>
<h3>The Colle Oppio and Terme di Traiano Park</h3>
<p>You can start your exploration right next to the Colosseum at the Colle Oppio and Terme di Traiano Park, a nicely maintained park where you&#8217;ll find the ruins of Trajan&#8217;s baths and Emperor Nero&#8217;s once lavish Golden House, called the Domus Aurea. Book a tour to the <a href="https://colosseo.it/en/area/the-domus-aurea/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Domus Aurea</a> to marvel at the grandiose architecture of this once-glorious palace. Then stroll through the pretty Colle Oppio Park and see the ruins of Trajan&#8217;s Baths. It&#8217;s a peaceful spot to enjoy Rome&#8217;s storied past amidst beautiful greenery. Bonus: The park has one of the best views of the Colosseum too!</p>

<p>Located in the Jewish ghetto in Rome, <a href="https://www.baghetto.com/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ba&#8217;Ghetto</a> is a must for traditional dining in the area. It’s the oldest Jewish-Italian restaurant in the city, serving kosher versions of Italian classics since the 1980s. You’ll find delicious dishes like grilled lamb chops, kebabs, kosher <em>bucatini all&#8217;amatriciana</em> and the traditional <em>carciofi alla giudia</em>.</p>
<h3><b>Ristorante la Campana</b></h3>
<p><a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/EySJ5CXXeRrVY26H6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ristorante La Campana</a> has been one of Rome’s most historic restaurants since it opened in 1518. Yes, you read that right! The cuisine highlights authentic Roman dishes well prepared, such as <em>cacio e pepe </em>and <em>coda alla vaccinara</em>, and there&#8217;s a lovely wine menu. Head here for a casual yet upscale restaurant that&#8217;s popular with locals and tourists alike.</p>
