<p>Wondering how to get from <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/plan-your-trip/practical-information/getting-to-italy/pisa-international-airport.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport</a> to Florence? There are several ways to make the journey, each with its own pros and cons depending on your travel style, budget and schedule. Whether you’re considering the train, bus, taxi, a private driver or renting a car, here’s a clear look at your options to help you choose the best way to start your stay in Florence.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-64447" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/italy-perfect-Pisa-International-Airport.jpg" alt="Pisa" width="1680" height="945" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/italy-perfect-Pisa-International-Airport.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/italy-perfect-Pisa-International-Airport-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/italy-perfect-Pisa-International-Airport-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/italy-perfect-Pisa-International-Airport-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/italy-perfect-Pisa-International-Airport-1536x864.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /></p>
<h3><strong>TRAM + TRAIN</strong></h3>
<p>Take the <a href="https://pisa-mover.com/en/shuttle-service/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pisa Mover</a> tram that leaves every 5-10 minutes from the airport to the Pisa central train station, a 5-minute ride. Buy tram tickets at tram kiosk.</p>
<p>Then catch the next train to Florence, no reservations needed. Trains leave approximately every hour and the journey takes from 50 minutes to 75 minutes, depending on the train, to <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/plan-your-trip/practical-information/arriving-or-departing-by-train.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Santa Maria Novella SMN</a>, the main Florence train station.</p>
<p>Walk out the front of the Florence train station. The taxi rank is to the left, queue up and take a taxi to your vacation rental in Florence.</p>
<p><strong>Tickets</strong>: Pisa Mover Tram and Pisa to Florence train tickets can be purchased in the Pisa airport, online (<a href="https://www.trenitalia.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Trenitalia</strong></a>) or at any train ticket office.</p>
<p><strong>Price</strong>: The tram + train will about €16 per person, taxi from the train station, another €15-€20 estimate.</p>
<p><strong>Time</strong>: 1.75 – 2.5 hours depending on the train you catch, time you arrive in Florence and distance from Florence train station to your accommodations.</p>
<p><strong>Advantages</strong>: Inexpensive, train travel is not subject to road traffic delays. <strong>Disadvantages</strong>: You could wait for half an hour for the next train, three forms of transportation, so elapsed time could be 2+ hours.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3><strong>BUS</strong></h3>
<p>The <a href="https://bus.caronnatour.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Caronna Sky Bus Line</a> connects the Pisa airport directly to Florence. This bus leaves about once every hour during the day and delivers you to a location to a tram stop <strong>Tramvia T2 &#8211; Fermata Guidoni</strong> from which you can take a taxi to your accommodations or a tram into the main Santa Maria Novella train station (about 25 minutes). You may need to call a taxi. Here are taxi numbers to keep handy: +39 then 055-42-42 or 055-47-98 or 055-43-90</p>
<p><strong>Tickets</strong>: Buy ticket at airport kiosk or online at <a href="https://bus.caronnatour.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">www.bus.caronnatour.com</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Time:</strong> About 1 hour + tram to train station and/or taxi to accommodations.</p>
<p><strong>Price:</strong> Bus €15/per person + taxi another €15-20 estimate.</p>
<p><strong>Advantages</strong>: Inexpensive. <strong>Disadvantages</strong>: You could wait up to an hour for the next bus and elapsed time could be 2+ hours depending on traffic. You may have to call a taxi in Florence for which there could be a lengthy wait.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3><strong>TAXI</strong></h3>
<p>Taxis are located on the Arrivals side of the airport. Uber might be available; check with Uber app before flying.</p>
<p><strong>Price</strong>: Starts €170 + luggage and other supplements.</p>
<p><strong>Time:</strong> About 1 hour + depending on demand and traffic.</p>
<p><strong>Advantages</strong>: Fast, easy, minimal logistics. <strong>Disadvantage</strong>: Higher price.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3><strong>PRIVATE DRIVER</strong></h3>
<p>Our <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/tours-services/florence/concierge-service.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Concierge Service</a> is happy to organize a private driver to meet you at the Pisa airport and to drive you directly to your accommodations. The price depends on the number passengers, luggage and demand.</p>
<p><strong>Price</strong>: Starts €280 for up to 4 guests including luggage.</p>
<p><strong>Time:</strong> About 1 hour + depending on demand and traffic.</p>
<p><strong>Advantages</strong>: Fast, easy, worry-free. <strong>Disadvantage</strong>: Higher price.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3><strong>RENTAL CAR</strong></h3>
<p>Rental cars are available at the Pisa airport and can be booked through <a href="https://www.autoeurope.com/car-rental-italy/?aff=VACATIONPERFECT" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AutoEurope</a>.</p>
<p>However, keep in mind that you don’t need a rental car in Florence where auto entry into the center is tightly controlled and has steep fines. If you do decide to rent a car, learn where the nearest garage is to your accommodations and if it can lift the automatic fines for entering the city.</p>
<p><strong>Advantages</strong>: Possibly faster if you are familiar with the area. <strong>Disadvantage</strong>: Price, tricky to drive in Florence, and you must reserve a garage spot in advance.</p>
<p><em>Buon viaggio!</em></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>Venice is one of the world&#8217;s most romantic cities. If you are lucky enough to visit in the winter, you can enjoy empty <em>campos</em> and misty canals. Most days will be warm enough to have a spritz in the sunshine but you might encounter a few raindrops. Spending time in a beautiful <a href="https://www.vacationperfect.com/rentals/venice/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Italy Perfect apartment</a> during the quieter season is one of the best ways to help Venice remain a living, thriving city. Prepare for a wet day with our suggestions of what to do on a rainy day in Venice.</p>
<p>Did you know? In Venetian dialect, the fog that envelops the lagoon in the winter is called<em> caigo.</em><span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<h3>A Word About Acqua Alta</h3>
<p>Water is central to life in Venice. Venetians are used to <i><a href="https://www.veneziaunica.it/en/content/high-water" target="_blank" rel="noopener">aqua alta</a>. </i>This phenomenon happens usually in the autumn and winter months when a high tide coincides with a strong <em>Scirocco</em> or <em>Bora</em> wind. A regular rainy day in Venice is not what causes <em>aqua alta</em>. Each part of town is affected differently. Piazza San Marco is one of the lowest parts of the city and floods regularly. The high water only lasts a few hours and long elevated walkways, <i>passarelle,</i> are set up in areas that get higher water so you won’t get your feet wet.</p>

<h3>Art Gazing in Palazzos<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></h3>
<p>Put away your umbrella and peek into some of the glittering palaces that line the Grand Canal with a visit to some incredible collections of art. Once the home of art collector Peggy Guggenheim, the<a href="http://www.guggenheim-venice.it/inglese/default.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Palazzo Venier dei Leoni</a> and garden is now filled with her personal collection of contemporary art and sculpture. The Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana have been transformed with vast soaring spaces to host exhibitions and the François Pinault’s private collection of contemporary art. The Cosmati floors on the canal level of the <a href="http://www.cadoro.org/?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Galleria Giorgio Franchetti all Ca’D’oro</a> are magnificent. In the<span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span>stunning Baroque palace <a href="http://carezzonico.visitmuve.it/en/home/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ca’Rezzonico</a>, look up to see the cherub filled Tiepolo ceilings. The Grimani family’s residence and collection of sculptures inside the the <a href="https://polomusealeveneto.beniculturali.it/musei/museo-di-palazzo-grimani" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Palazzo Grimani</a> is an intoxicating mix of classical architecture, mannerist frescoes and archeology. The <a href="https://correr.visitmuve.it/en/home/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Museo Corer</a> is often overlooked despite its location on the edge of Piazza San Marco. Inside are rooms filled with art and the history of Venice and a cafe with one of the best views in town.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<div id="attachment_63654" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-63654" class="size-full wp-image-63654" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/venice-cafe-winter-kate-townsend-hEC6zxdFF0M-unsplash.jpg" alt="" width="1680" height="1116" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/venice-cafe-winter-kate-townsend-hEC6zxdFF0M-unsplash.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/venice-cafe-winter-kate-townsend-hEC6zxdFF0M-unsplash-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/venice-cafe-winter-kate-townsend-hEC6zxdFF0M-unsplash-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/venice-cafe-winter-kate-townsend-hEC6zxdFF0M-unsplash-768x510.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/venice-cafe-winter-kate-townsend-hEC6zxdFF0M-unsplash-1536x1020.jpg 1536w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/venice-cafe-winter-kate-townsend-hEC6zxdFF0M-unsplash-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-63654" class="wp-caption-text">Don&#8217;t miss the classic <em>aperitivo</em> experience in Venice! <h3>Stop for a Snack and a Glass of Wine</h3>
<p>One of the many great things about Venice is<em> cicchetti.</em> These are small snacks that are served throughout the day with a glass of prosecco, wine or a spritz. There are lots of <em>baccari</em>, the Venetian word for places that serve <em>cicchetti</em> near the Rialto Market but they are traditionally offer only places to stand. The cozy <a href="http://www.naranzaria.it/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Naranzaria</a> serves wonderful bites of cured meat and local cheeses with views of the Grand Canal.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>

<h3>A Spot of Shopping</h3>
<p>Over five centuries the grand marble palace on the Grand Canal near the Rialto Bridge has been a storage warehouse and barracks for German merchants, a customs house under Napoleon, and one of the cities main post offices. Today the space known now as<span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span><a href="https://www.dfs.com/en/venice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">T Fondaco dei Tedeschi</a> has been transformed into a elegant department store with floors dedicated to Italian wine and gourmet foods, shoes, bags jewelry and cosmetics. The finest Italian and international luxury brands are represented.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> Another perk that is available here for serious shoppers is the onsite tax refund office. </span></p>
<p>If your energy is flagging there is a small bar on the ground floor where you can grab a quick cup of coffee and a sandwich or pastry. There is a cafe in the center of the building. Run by the Alajmo brothers of the famous Gan Caffe Quadri in Piazza San Marco the cafe is open all day so you can have a late morning pot of tea or an evening meal here.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p>There is also a small exhibition space on the top floor that hosts contemporary art shows. If the rain stops book a slot online for 15 minutes on the roof for a spectacular view over the Grand Canal.</p>
<div id="attachment_63653" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-63653" class="size-full wp-image-63653" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/venice-cafe-florian-clay-banks-DbsU14a7ZgY-unsplash.jpg" alt="" width="1680" height="1120" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/venice-cafe-florian-clay-banks-DbsU14a7ZgY-unsplash.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/venice-cafe-florian-clay-banks-DbsU14a7ZgY-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/venice-cafe-florian-clay-banks-DbsU14a7ZgY-unsplash-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/venice-cafe-florian-clay-banks-DbsU14a7ZgY-unsplash-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/venice-cafe-florian-clay-banks-DbsU14a7ZgY-unsplash-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/venice-cafe-florian-clay-banks-DbsU14a7ZgY-unsplash-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-63653" class="wp-caption-text">Stop by historic Cafe Florian. (<a href="https://unsplash.com/photos/shallow-focus-photo-of-man-in-white-suit-jacket-DbsU14a7ZgY" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<h3>Sip and Savor Piazza Life</h3>
<p>Venice’s grandest cafes ring the only Piazza in the city. In warmer months there is outside seating and orchestras playing. All of which come with a hefty, but worth it surcharge. On a gloomy day settle into a velvet banquet in a mirror panels room at <a href="https://www.caffeflorian.com/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cafe Florian</a>, considered to be the oldest cafe in Europe, or cross over to<a href="https://www.alajmo.it/grancaffe-quadri#" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Gran Caffe Quadri</a>’s pastel rooms for a spritz served in a glass made in nearby Murano. If you are hungry, there is a Michelin starred restaurant upstairs. <span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p>Did you know? Piazza San Marco is the only <em>piazza</em> in Venice. All other public squares are called <em>campo</em>.</p>

<h2>Florence: Where Renaissance Art Meets Holiday Magic</h2>
<p>In Florence, the historic city center comes alive with twinkling lights and festive markets for the winter season. If you&#8217;re visiting during the Christmas holidays, <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/florence-piazza-santa-croce.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Piazza Santa Croce</a> hosts a traditional Christmas market, offering handmade crafts, local delicacies and artisanal gifts. But the off-season period from November through early spring is a quieter time that&#8217;s the best for exploring Florence&#8217;s many museums, from the world-class collections at the <a href="https://www.uffizi.it/en/the-uffizi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Uffizi</a> to the many smaller <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/6-hidden-gems-in-florence.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hidden gems</a> throughout the city.</p>

<h2>Rome: Winter Wonder Amidst Ancient History</h2>
<p>The Eternal City shines during the winter with holiday lights lining the street adding an extra glow. For Christmas, you can witness the grandeur of St. Peter&#8217;s Square adorned with a towering Christmas tree and nativity scene. Explore Rome&#8217;s iconic landmarks, including the Colosseum, Roman Forum and the Pantheon, without the summer heat and crowds. With so many fine museums to visit for those rainy days, winter is ideal for experiencing Rome&#8217;s history at a leisurely pace. When it&#8217;s time to warm up, head to a café for a steaming cup of rich Italian coffee or hot chocolate or indulge in hearty Roman dishes like <em>pasta carbonara</em> in welcoming trattorias.</p>
<div id="attachment_63624" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-63624" class="size-full wp-image-63624" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/rome-colosseum-getty-images-FWFTOJTRih8-unsplash.jpg" alt="Rome winter tours" width="1680" height="1066" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/rome-colosseum-getty-images-FWFTOJTRih8-unsplash.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/rome-colosseum-getty-images-FWFTOJTRih8-unsplash-300x190.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/rome-colosseum-getty-images-FWFTOJTRih8-unsplash-1024x650.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/rome-colosseum-getty-images-FWFTOJTRih8-unsplash-768x487.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/rome-colosseum-getty-images-FWFTOJTRih8-unsplash-1536x975.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-63624" class="wp-caption-text">The Colosseum is impressive in any light! <p>While the allure of Italy&#8217;s classic romantic cities is undeniable, the journey to explore its heart also beckons us towards lesser-known gems that promise unforgettable experiences. Italy remains simultaneously vivid yet endearingly tender, clamorous yet impossibly elegant, complex yet endlessly welcoming. You can’t help but be swept up into the rhythm of this place and its ability to transform profoundly during even a short train ride. Indeed, Italy’s delightful contradictions may be the very thing that makes it an ideal romantic destination: just enough variety, just enough luxury, just enough adventure.</p>
<p>In this itinerary, we&#8217;ll whisk you away to Venice, Florence, Rome and Sorrento, unveiling their enduring attractions while also suggesting off-the-beaten-path treasures in smaller cities and towns. You might find yourselves making little unplanned detours along the way, but doesn’t that just add to the romance of it all? And besides, when you’re with someone you love, you’re never truly lost!</p>
<h2>Stop 1: Venice</h2>
<div id="attachment_63355" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-63355" class="size-full wp-image-63355" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/italy-venice-rebe-adelaida-zunQwMy5B6M-unsplash.jpg" alt="Romantic Venice travel tips" width="1680" height="1050" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/italy-venice-rebe-adelaida-zunQwMy5B6M-unsplash.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/italy-venice-rebe-adelaida-zunQwMy5B6M-unsplash-300x188.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/italy-venice-rebe-adelaida-zunQwMy5B6M-unsplash-1024x640.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/italy-venice-rebe-adelaida-zunQwMy5B6M-unsplash-768x480.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/italy-venice-rebe-adelaida-zunQwMy5B6M-unsplash-1536x960.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-63355" class="wp-caption-text">Venice and romance go hand in hand! (<a href="https://unsplash.com/photos/zunQwMy5B6M" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<p>Joseph Brodsky wrote that “Venice is eternity itself.”  You could certainly spend an eternity in Venice just wandering through narrow streets that beg you to hold onto your loved one’s hand, or <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/island-hopping-in-the-venetian-lagoon.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">exploring the many islands that dot the Venetian lagoon</a>. Whether you’re there for the masks of <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/carnival-in-venice-past-and-present.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Carnevale</a>, the art of the Biennale or just to soak it all in, Venice will never fail to seduce you. While you won&#8217;t be alone in exploring the city in peak season, you don’t need to walk far to escape the crowds. See the Rialto bridge and sights in San Marco, then spend time wandering the quieter, winding streets of Dorsoduro and Cannaregio.</p>
<p>If you’re flying from abroad, you’ll more than likely arrive in one of the major hubs of Rome or Milan, and catch a connecting flight to <strong>Venice</strong>. Or if you&#8217;re arriving by train, the Santa Lucia station waits in one of the most dramatic scenes you can imagine. Here is where the magic of Venice begins. Once you arrive at the banks of the Grand Canal you’ll forget that the rest of the world exists. You’re in <em>La Serenissima</em> and the rest just slips away. <h3><em><strong>If you want to explore &#8230;</strong></em></h3>
<p>There is a whole world within reach of Venice, including some of the most culturally diverse areas in all of Italy. If you’re on the hunt for something sweet, visit <strong>Treviso</strong>, the birthplace of <em>tiramisù </em>and home to its own storied canals and craftspeople. Wine lovers will not be disappointed by a day trip to<strong> Conegliano, </strong>one of the three towns awarded the coveted DOCG status for their Prosecco production. A trip to each takes about an hour from Venice’s main train station and is well worth a detour.</p>
<p>The neighboring <strong>Friuli Venezia-Giulia</strong> region, also the easternmost point in Italy, may seem to share more in common with Vienna than Rome, but it is distinctly Italian. A trip to <strong>Trieste </strong>is a chance to taste some of the best coffee in Italy, with the legendary Illy brand headquartered in the heart of the city. Wine lovers will think they’ve discovered treasure in hills of <strong>Collio, </strong>home to some of the most spectacular vineyards in Europe. And if you should find yourself in the northeastern city of <strong>Udine</strong>, your ears won’t be playing tricks on you: the local dialect borrows as much from Slavic languages as from Italian, and its all just as lyrical. A trip to Friuli takes upwards of two hours from Venice on the train.</p>
<h2>Stop 2: Florence</h2>
<div id="attachment_63587" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-63587" class="size-full wp-image-63587" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/florence-ali-nuredini-I0EmVpBK44c-unsplash.jpg" alt="" width="1680" height="944" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/florence-ali-nuredini-I0EmVpBK44c-unsplash.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/florence-ali-nuredini-I0EmVpBK44c-unsplash-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/florence-ali-nuredini-I0EmVpBK44c-unsplash-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/florence-ali-nuredini-I0EmVpBK44c-unsplash-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/florence-ali-nuredini-I0EmVpBK44c-unsplash-1536x863.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-63587" class="wp-caption-text">Stroll over the Ponte Vecchio in Florence. (<a href="https://unsplash.com/photos/I0EmVpBK44c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<p><strong>Florence</strong>, with its Renaissance artistry, intimate streets and the timeless beauty of the Arno River, exudes an unparalleled romantic atmosphere that has inspired lovers for centuries. The Birthplace of the Renaissance is as lovely as you can imagine and full of spots to take it all in. Find a lovely place to enjoy a Spritz, basking in the golden hour as it dapples the roofs and plays tricks on you on the surface of the Arno.</p>
<p>Florence is entirely walkable, and small enough to wander without ever getting too far afield. But between the Boboli Gardens, the Uffizi Gallery and the Ponte Vecchio, you may not even realize that an entire day (or week) has gone by. It’s all a bit better by night, lit up and ever so slightly more magical. If such a thing exists. Check out our <a href="https://www.vacationperfect.com/rentals/florence/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Florence vacation rentals</a> to find your own romantic room with a view.</p>
<div id="attachment_62748" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.vacationperfect.com/vrp/unit/casetta-bonsi" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-62748" class="wp-image-62748 size-full" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/italy-perfect-casetta-bonsi.jpg" alt="" width="1680" height="1120" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/italy-perfect-casetta-bonsi.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/italy-perfect-casetta-bonsi-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/italy-perfect-casetta-bonsi-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/italy-perfect-casetta-bonsi-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/italy-perfect-casetta-bonsi-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/italy-perfect-casetta-bonsi-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-62748" class="wp-caption-text">Start your day on the charming terrace at <a href="https://www.vacationperfect.com/vrp/unit/casetta-bonsi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Casetta Bonsi</a> in Florence.</p></div>
<h3><strong><em>If you want to explore &#8230;</em><br />
</strong></h3>
<p>Foodies will find paradise in <strong>Bologna, </strong>home to the oldest university in the world and a vibrant culinary culture. Trains are by far the most efficient way to travel between the two cities, with less than an hour separating the gardens of Florence from the red roofs of Bologna. The latter is teeming with character and bursting with flavors: tuck into handmade tortellini or massive mortadella, and then walk it off hand in hand under the miles of covered sidewalks that make the city feel intimate despite its size. The rebellious soul of Bologna feels light years away from the genteel sophistication of Florence, but the contrast makes each feel even more special.</p>
<div id="attachment_63586" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-63586" class="size-full wp-image-63586" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-perugia-cristina-gottardi-xIQCF9lPHvE-unsplash.jpg" alt="" width="1680" height="2222" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-perugia-cristina-gottardi-xIQCF9lPHvE-unsplash.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-perugia-cristina-gottardi-xIQCF9lPHvE-unsplash-227x300.jpg 227w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-perugia-cristina-gottardi-xIQCF9lPHvE-unsplash-774x1024.jpg 774w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-perugia-cristina-gottardi-xIQCF9lPHvE-unsplash-768x1016.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-perugia-cristina-gottardi-xIQCF9lPHvE-unsplash-1161x1536.jpg 1161w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-perugia-cristina-gottardi-xIQCF9lPHvE-unsplash-1548x2048.jpg 1548w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-63586" class="wp-caption-text">Explore towns like Perugia on a day trip from Florence. (<a href="https://unsplash.com/photos/xIQCF9lPHvE" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<p>Across the border in Umbria, <strong>Perugia </strong>is one of those places that you’ll want to keep hidden from all of your friends when you come home and they ask for the highlight of your trip. This imposing hilltop city is the home of Umbria Jazz, the yearly festival that fills the streets with music and has hosted some of the most famous musicians in the world. Perugia is also home to Perugina chocolate, whose factory you can visit and learn about the incredible love story at the heart of the company. Don’t forget to pick up some freshly made <em>baci </em>(kisses) from the Perugina store and stick around for the night to watch the sunset over the medieval skyline.</p>
<h2>Stop 3: Rome</h2>
<div id="attachment_63351" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-63351" class="size-full wp-image-63351" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/italy-rome-christopher-czermak-PamFFHL6fVY-unsplash.jpg" alt="Romantic Rome travel tips" width="1680" height="1260" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/italy-rome-christopher-czermak-PamFFHL6fVY-unsplash.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/italy-rome-christopher-czermak-PamFFHL6fVY-unsplash-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/italy-rome-christopher-czermak-PamFFHL6fVY-unsplash-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/italy-rome-christopher-czermak-PamFFHL6fVY-unsplash-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/italy-rome-christopher-czermak-PamFFHL6fVY-unsplash-1536x1152.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-63351" class="wp-caption-text">A roman holiday is perfect for romance! (<a href="https://unsplash.com/photos/PamFFHL6fVY" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<p>No matter how many times you might see it, there’s nothing quite like visiting <strong>Rome</strong>. Walking through it is a sensory overload in the very best way: every corner of it emanates a beauty that will never be replicated anywhere, at any other time. And there’s much more to see and do than the monuments or museums that you might have learned about in school. <a href="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/rediscover-rome-why-you-need-to-return-to-the-eternal-city.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rome is in the midst of its own renaissance</a>, and the city is bursting with new restaurants, museums and experiences that once again prove that eternity really is built on constant reinvention. If you’re already in the mood for love, Rome will sweep you off your feet all over again. When you&#8217;re ready to call it a day, head home to a relaxing <a href="https://www.vacationperfect.com/rentals/rome/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vacation rental in the heart of Rome</a>.</p>
<h3><strong><em>If you want to explore &#8230;</em></strong></h3>
<div id="attachment_63585" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-63585" class="size-full wp-image-63585" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-naples-brad-weaver-ZFJ2enSFfS4-unsplash.jpg" alt="" width="1680" height="1120" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-naples-brad-weaver-ZFJ2enSFfS4-unsplash.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-naples-brad-weaver-ZFJ2enSFfS4-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-naples-brad-weaver-ZFJ2enSFfS4-unsplash-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-naples-brad-weaver-ZFJ2enSFfS4-unsplash-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-naples-brad-weaver-ZFJ2enSFfS4-unsplash-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-naples-brad-weaver-ZFJ2enSFfS4-unsplash-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-63585" class="wp-caption-text">The glow of sunset in Naples. (<a href="https://unsplash.com/photos/ZFJ2enSFfS4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">credit</a>)</p></div>
<p>Since all roads lead there, Rome is connected to almost every other city in Italy, by either regional trains or the high speed Frecciarossa or Italo trains. One of the most vibrant cities in Italy, <strong>Naples</strong> is an exciting place to visit. Connected to Rome with high speed trains that take a little more than an hour, Naples hugs its eponymous bay and rises above the hills like a picture frame on the entire Mediterranean. Over the past decade, it’s undergone a significant facelift and has become a fantastic place to visit for day trippers traveling by land or sea. With so much to see, from the Palazzo del Plebiscito to the Spanish Quarter to the hilltop palace of Capodimonte, it’s easy to spend days soaking it all in. If you haven’t quite fallen under its spell, the famous Neapolitan pizza will put you in a delightful trance.</p>
<h2>Stop 4: Sorrento &amp; the Amalfi Coast</h2>
<div id="attachment_63584" style="width: 1690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-63584" class="size-full wp-image-63584" src="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-positano-louise-krause-5Fh4FTnXiug-unsplash.jpg" alt="" width="1680" height="1120" srcset="https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-positano-louise-krause-5Fh4FTnXiug-unsplash.jpg 1680w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-positano-louise-krause-5Fh4FTnXiug-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-positano-louise-krause-5Fh4FTnXiug-unsplash-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-positano-louise-krause-5Fh4FTnXiug-unsplash-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-positano-louise-krause-5Fh4FTnXiug-unsplash-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://www.italyperfect.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/italy-positano-louise-krause-5Fh4FTnXiug-unsplash-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1680px) 100vw, 1680px" /><p id="caption-attachment-63584" class="wp-caption-text">Enjoy all the allure of the Amalfi Coast.
